Melatonin and Aging

Everybody knows aging is an inevitable process. But there are some people who don’t think so. As a result they researching on it and have found many mysteries behind aging.

This has resulted in clear understanding of the process and possible remedy for it. But as it is, aging will happen for sure. Many researches have revealed that aging occurs due to oxidation and antioxidants have helped in some cause though not completely successful. Antioxidants have proved worthy in many cases and were effective also. Further research has shown that melatonin, a hormone, has exciting anti aging properties. The substance, a hormone essentially, is released by the body to induce sleep. These when induced will result in drowsiness and causes sleep.

But it has been found now only that melatonin has anti aging values. So, further research has been done in this field to provide clear information. The levels of melatonin are very low in daytime and high in night time so that it may induce sleep. It gets released whenever the body is at rest for a while and hence we get sleep. This melatonin is primarily an antioxidant that makes it good anti aging agent. It slows down the neuro-degeneration and also prevents oxidation. Apart from the body, this melatonin can be found in vegetables like onion and fruits like cherry and banana. It is also found in small quantities in oats, corn and rice. Mint, thyme and red wine also have considerable levels of melatonin. So eating these foods may give you good anti aging resistance. But the levels of melatonin should not be too high as it may lead to negative effects.
